Lucy's Make-up #4: Eyeshadows

Friday, 28 March 2014

left to right, top to bottom - naked basics palette, avon mocha latte quad, mua heaven and earth palette, mua undress me too palette, naked 3 palette

Eyeshadow is easily my favourite part of my make-up routine. I always love to experiement play around with my look, despite the fact I still haven't nailed the smoky eye.

My Naked Basics Palette is my go-to palette for everyday, particularly when I'm at school. I like to use venus as a highlight in my inner corner and brow bone, Foxy or Walk Of Shame over my whole lid then Naked 2 or Faint in the crease. The Avon Quad in Mocha Latte is something I haven't used for a while now but this is a brilliant budget palette for a smokey eye. It has the progression of shades which make it easy for any newbie to follow and have a pretty bronze smoky look. Both the Mua Heaven and Earth Palette and Undress Me Too Palette are cheap Urban Decay Dupes, great for anyone starting out and wanting to experiment. Brilliant quality for their cheap price and a vast range of shades. My favourite palette is of course my Naked 3 Palette. I wasn't sure on the pinky shades at first but I do really love it and find myself reaching for it a lot, The left hand side of the palette is perfect for every day, and the right side is brilliant to add to, to make a smoky eye for evening. I also love the fact it has few of my favourite bronzey shades in there.

Only one more week to go for Lucy's Make-up! Next Friday I have the last component to a face of make-up - lips! What eyeshadows are your favourite?

An absolute steal

CROP TOP - PRIMARK // SKIRT - H&M // JACKET - NEW LOOK // SHOES - TOPSHOP

If you know me in real life, there's a 99% chance I would have told you about this gooooorgeous crop top. I found it in Primark a while ago and haven't stopped sneaking in the price of it into conversation since. The label originally said £14.. over the top was £7.. I went to the counter to pay and BAM!!! £2! TWO BLOOMING POUNDS! Quite possibly the biggest steal ever. I saw it hanging up and was happy to pay the full £14 - I can't help but get a Topshop vibe from it so finding out I only had to pay a mere £2 obviously made me happy. What's your best ever bargain?

Fashionably Fit

VEST TOP & LEGGINGS - SPORTS DIRECT // NIKE FREE RUNS 3.0* & NIKE RUNNING SOCKS* - SPORTS SHOES

Recently I was contacted by Sports Shoes inviting me to join their SportShoes Fashionably Fit Campaign, where they aim to help health conscious bloggers get back out in the fresh air and continue to keep motivated and fit!

Now, I've always been sporty, I was always in that sporty group at high school who was eager to do any kind of sport. I've done everything from swimming to rugby, although now I've narrowed it down to just netball and football and play in teams for both. Growing up with two older brothers who were also sporty, as well as my parents who did a lot when they were younger meant I was inevitably brought up athletic. Although, the gym is a whole other board game. Put me in a team and on some kind of court or pitch and I'll thrive. Get me a gym membership and you'll be lucky to see me go once a month. I've had memberships in the past and used them for various classes when I was younger but I don't think I've touched a running machine for almost a year now.

Sport Shoes actually launched this campaign after Katherine Jenkins was heavily criticised for turning up for a marathon in a face full of make-up. Personally, I feel like there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. Why does whether she has make-up on or not matter?  Shouldn't we focus on the fact that she ran a bloomin' marathon? Personally, I tend to wear make-up when exercising. Most of the time I train for my teams after school and can't really be bothered to take it off. When (on very rare occasions) I exercise at weekends I like to put a minimal amount of make-up on just so I don't scare the public, so normally a bit of concealer and sometimes some BB cream will do. I feel a hundred times more confident if I know my skins looking nice!

Similarly, the clothes I wear can have an influence on my exercise and the amount I do. I love getting new gym gear and being that one person in the gym that's 'all the gear no idea'! We all have to start somewhere though, right? And if having all the gear gets you in the gym or out on the streets running, I don't see an issue with it. Feeling fashion forward in my gym gear makes me more motivated to get out and do more to show it off!

Lucy's Makeup #3: Blush & Bronzers

Friday, 21 March 2014

left to right, top to bottom - avon illuminating pearls, kelly brook bardot blusher, avon bronzing pearls, kelly brook raquel blusher, bourjouis cream blush, bourjour bronzing powder

Today I bring you the wonderfulness of blushers and bronzers! I hate leaving the house without some kind of colour on my cheeks, and these are the products I use!

The Avon Illuminating Pearls are a strong favourite of mine, they give the perfect amount of highlight and colour to the cheeks, a brilliant 2-in-1 highlight and blush. A slightly different shade of blush for me is the Kelly Brook Blush in Bardot - a lot more pink rather than peachy. This is a shimmery blush in the pan, but comes out a lot more subtle on the cheek. Avon Bronzing Pearls are my favourite things to use in the summer months. These certainly aren't for contouring, but perfect to replace blush to give a bronzed, glowy look. My preferred Kelly Brook blusher is Kelly Brook Blush in Raquel. This is more my shade, a light peachy-coral colour with a beautiful shimmer in. A very natural blush. I don't seem to get on well with the Bourjous Cream Blush, I've tried it multiple times and the colour is gorgeous, I just find it so hard to work with since it's hard to blend. The Bourjous Bronzing Powder is a highly raved product in the blogosphere and I use it a lot to warm up my face. It's a brilliant bronzer that's not too orange! I also use two more products that aren't featured in this photo. First is the Sleek Face Contour Palette, and I adore this, particularly the bronzer and highlight. The pink is a slightly darker pink with gold shimmer in, the bronzer is the perfect subtle warmer-uppper-of-the-face and the highlight is also a very subtle but gorgeous finishing touch. Finally, my all time favourite blusher is Benefit Coralista. It's a stunning peachy/coral with slight shimmer in and looks so natural I just love it.

I have 2 posts more for my Lucy's Make-up series. Next week will be eyeshadows! What are your favourite blushers and bronzers?
